National Center of Innovation for Biomaterials in Orthopaedic Research

The National Center of Innovation for Biomaterials in Orthopaedic Research (CIBOR) is dedicated to researching and developing the potential of composite materials for use in a wide variety of bioscience and medical applications including the manufacturing of orthopaedic implants. Composites possess several notable characteristics which promise to enhance the performance of many medical devices. These characteristics include:

These inherent properties could also allow significant improvements in battlefield medicine, surgical instrumentation, rehabilitation and sports medicine, and orthopaedic implantations. From our advanced research facilities in Wichita, Kansas, CIBOR will draw upon the composites expertise of the city's well-established aviation manufacturing community and the National Institute for Aviation Research (NIAR) to deliver global leadership in the design and fabrication of composites-based medical technology.

This Center of Innovation is supported by funding from the Kansas Bioscience Authority.
